What factors should be taken into account when selecting solar mounting systems for glazed tile roofs? Apr 02, 2026

1. Choose a highly adaptable mounting system

Glazed tile roofs are typically pitched, and as the tiles have a smooth surface, traditional bolt-through mounting systems are difficult to install securely. It is therefore necessary to select a clamping or hook-type mounting system specifically designed for tiled roofs.

Features: These brackets typically feature aluminium alloy or stainless steel hooks that clip into the gaps between tiles (along the water drainage channels or at the base of the tiles), eliminating the need to drill through the tiles and thus preventing damage to the waterproofing layer.

2. Consider the mounting angle and flexibility of the mounting system

The pitch of a glazed tile roof typically ranges between 30° and 45°. When selecting a mounting system, ensure that it can accommodate this range of angles and is easy to adjust.

Mounting angle: Opt for a mounting system with adjustable angles, or one customised in advance to suit the local latitude (e.g. 30°–60°).

Flexible adaptation: As there may be gaps or unevenness between glazed tiles, selecting a system with flexible aluminium alloy rails and pre-fitted components can reduce the need for on-site welding and complex adjustments.

3. Ensuring water resistance and corrosion resistance

As glazed tiles have a smooth surface and provide a tight seal, the corrosion resistance of the brackets is particularly important.

Corrosion-resistant materials: It is recommended to select brackets made of stainless steel (SUS304) or aluminium alloy (Al6063-T5). Aluminium alloy is lightweight and corrosion-resistant, whilst stainless steel offers high strength and rust resistance.

Waterproof design: Hooks should be designed in such a way as not to compromise the waterproofing layer of the tiles. Typically, a ‘hook + pressure block’ or ‘hook + spacer’ configuration is used to ensure that rainwater flows down smoothly after installation.

4. Durability and Load-bearing Capacity

To ensure a long service life, the supports must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions.

Durability: Choose products with a warranty of 20 years or more, or those with a long rated service life, and avoid using standard steel pipe supports to prevent rusting.

Wind and Snow Resistance: The supports must comply with local standards for wind load resistance (e.g. >0.6 kN/m²) and snow load resistance (e.g. >0.5 kN/m²).

5. Ease of installation and maintenance

Pre-assembly: We recommend using brackets that come pre-assembled from the factory (such as pre-fitted rails); on-site installation requires only the simple attachment of hooks and clamps, saving both time and effort.

Wide range of accessories: Select hooks of the appropriate size (such as large or small curved hooks) based on the thickness and shape of the glazed tiles to ensure a secure grip.
